So maybe it wasn’t so much a hangover on Sunday after all.
Although I felt better on Monday, by Tuesday morning I was back to the unsettled stomach business… and as an added bonus, I was dragging my way through the day. I hadn’t slept well on Monday night, so I put the crummy feeling down to a lack of sleep and soldiered on. And I accomplished a lot – household chores, running errands, and even that delight of delights, a dental appointment. But lunch didn’t agree with me and was promptly upchucked, and by late afternoon, I knew that I was out of the running business for the day.
By the time Doug came home, my stomach felt better, but I was really tired. I decided that I wasn’t up to cooking, and because I was really hungry (well, as breakfast was the only meal I had managed to keep down, no wonder…), we went out for dinner. Really bad idea. By the time dinner was over, I was no longer just really tired but now my stomach wasn’t well, again. So I was in bed by 7:45 and asleep by 8:00.
I felt much better when I awoke this morning, and breakfast wasn’t a problem, so I decided to head out for yesterday’s missed run. I probably should have waited one more day. It is a cool day here, currently 58 degrees, overcast, damp and with a bit of a north breeze. And it was the north breeze that curtailed a portion of my run. I had hoped to do a 3.2 mile loop and it started well, but when I headed northward into the wind in the second mile, the combination of running eyes, a runny nose, and no tissues made me so uncomfortable, I knew that wasn’t going to happen. I slowed to a walk for a bit, and weighed my options. I finally decided to ditch the run, head home via a short cut through the back alleys, and try again tomorrow. But once I got out of the wind, I felt a bit better and ended up taking a longer route through my own neighbourhood.
Not the run I had planned, and I did walk for a few minutes part way through it – but a run nonetheless. And now that I am home and cooled down, I realize that I am still not feeling 100 per cent. But tomorrow is another day.
