Monday September 20. Mom was failing quickly, and we all knew that the end was nearing. It had been over six weeks since I had arrived in Canada again, and exactly a month since Mom had been admitted to Hospice.  During that time,  I had spent most of my days involved in her care. That [...]

I didn’t sleep well on Saturday night, as exhausted as I was. Probably it was due to guilt from my failure to go to Hospice, but whatever the reason, I was still tired when I struggled out of bed Sunday morning. But I knew that the coming week would probably preclude a lot of gym [...]

This was easily one of the worse days of my entire life. I came the closest I have ever come to falling apart, both emotionally and physically, and I don’t remember a time in my life when I have ever been so exhausted. Halfway through my workout, I actually felt like sitting down and crying [...]

In quick succession, the next few posts will all be workouts I completed but never posted because of one of the following factors: sheer exhaustion, or dealing with the illness and death of my mother. Deep breath… okay, here we go!

Life is tough. But so am I.

I haven’t been posting recently, my workouts are a little behind, and my diet is on a temporary hold (with the blessing of my diet god, Shelby). All because my mom died last Tuesday afternoon. But I’m coping, and have even managed a bit of gym time in the interim. Tomorrow (Sunday) is the visitation [...]

Ultimate Fitness is a great place to do a leg session. I am especially in love with the leg press in this gym, as I have chronicled in the past – there is nothing like moving some iron to make a girl feel successful. Today, I managed that with Smith squats, too, working up to [...]

Late Night Cardio.

Long days, even longer evenings, and the end result is that I sometimes end up doing cardio after the gym closes. Luckily, the weather has been cooperating and Wednesday night’s cardio was a walk/run interval session through the quiet streets. Just a quick half-hour, but cold enough outside (6 Celsius) that 10 steps out the [...]

Monday, I missed my HIIT session, I didn’t run, and in fact, the complete lack of cardio of any kind, especially on an interval day, is my first real error in this current cut. Frankly, not only was I swamped with obligations, but I was also in a state somewhere just this side of exhaustion. [...]

Sunday afternoon, I left my shift at Hospice at 12:50 p.m., lead-footed it to the gym, found a choice parking spot (on the same street as the gym!), flew up the stairs, hit the locker room, changed my clothes and made it onto the floor by 1:05. Fifteen minutes flat. Gotta love small towns. The [...]

I did something today that I haven’t done in a very long time indeed. I did my HIIT cardio on the treadmill, running the high intensity portion, and walking the recovery. It was infinitely harder than running HIIT on the track or the sidewalk, because when you set the speed to 9 mph., you actually [...]
